Winter Station La Clusaz (Aravis / Haute-Savoie 74): A pool of champions!
La Clusaz has 8 world champions in almost all fields of winter sports, a phenomenon for a French resort.
Guy Périllat (Double world champion alpine 1960 and 1966), Alain Pessey (1st world champion speed telemarking 1986), Andrew Majewski (world champion in snowboard super G in 1989), Catherine Lombard (World Champion Jumping 1989 ), Raphaëlle Monod (World Champion mogul 1989), Edgar Grospiron (Triple world champion mogul 1989, 91 and 95), Regine Cavagnoud (World Champion of Super-G 2001), Vincent Vittoz (World Champion prosecution 2005).
Alpine Skiing
It is practiced normally with two sticks (one for each hand) and two skis (one for each foot). Control of the skis is provided by the use of shoes to be maintained by ski bindings. A helmet is sometimes worn to protect the head of the impacts caused by a collision with the snow, skiers or other obstacles or to improve the aerodynamics during competitions.
Freestyle
Freestyle discipline is seen as an extreme sport. Often confused with freestyle skiing, freestyle is a new discipline emerged in the late 90s, after several other disciplines such as skiing moguls, the half-pipe or acrobatic jump. The freestyle is used in special areas known as snow parks or off-road (known as backcountry). It is to make figures from snow structures or metal. The skier who practice freestyle is called freestyleur (freestyler), or more generally riders (rider).
